Spotify Launches In-App Messaging for Music, Podcasts, and Audiobooks

Spotify has rolled out a brand-new messaging feature that allows users to have one-on-one conversations, share content, and react with text or emojis — all without leaving the app.

Starting this week, Spotify Messages will be available on mobile devices for both Free and Premium users aged 16 and older, in select regions. With more than 696 million users worldwide, including 276 million subscribers across 180+ countries, Spotify is aiming to make music and podcast sharing more personal and engaging.

How Spotify Messages Work

According to Spotify, you can message people you’ve already interacted with in the app — whether you’ve shared songs before, joined a Jam or Blend, collaborated on playlists, or are part of the same Family or Duo plan.

To send a message:

While listening to music, a podcast, or audiobook in the Now Playing screen, tap the share icon, choose a friend, and hit send.

Once a message request is accepted, you can reply with emojis, text, and share Spotify content back and forth.

Messages can be accessed through your profile photo in the top-left corner of the app.

Spotify also gives users full control over who can reach them. You can accept or decline message requests, block unwanted users, and report inappropriate messages directly from the chat. Additionally, there’s an option to opt out of messaging entirely through app settings.

What Spotify Says

“This is just the beginning,” Spotify announced in its official release. “We’re excited to keep building and improving this experience for listeners around the world in the months to come.”

With this new feature, Spotify is not only competing with streaming rivals but also stepping closer into the social media space, turning music sharing into a more interactive, community-driven experience.
